Allianz Commercial has appointed Anton Kolbe as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), succeeding Kevin Barnes, who is stepping down. Pending regulatory approval, Kolbe will be reporting directly to Thusang Mahlangu, CEO of Allianz Commercial South Africa.
Kolbe, who joined Allianz Commercial in 2024 as Financial Controller, has quickly established himself as a strategic leader. In his current role, he oversees the preparation of management accounts and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local GAAP.
His rigorous management of regulatory filings with the Prudential Authority, South African Reserve Bank (SARB), Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), and SASRIA has reinforced Allianz Group’s financial integrity. Kolbe’s expertise in corporate tax, VAT submissions, and risk management aligns with Solvency Assessment and Management (SAM) frameworks, enabling him to mitigate financial, operational, and strategic risks through precise reporting and actionable insights.
Kolbe’s extensive experience in the financial sector bolsters his readiness for the CFO position. As Finance Manager at Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) for Continental Europe, he navigated complex financial landscapes, delivering US GAAP and IFRS-compliant reports and spearheading strategic financial planning.

His implementation of Alteryx workflows enhanced operational efficiency, while his collaboration with business development, legal, and underwriting teams drove excellence across Europe and the Middle East. Previously, as Senior Financial Accountant at RGA, Kolbe chaired the Investment Committee, optimized cash flow, and mentored junior staff, fostering a culture of precision.
Kolbe’s career began at PwC South Africa, where he served as an Audit Manager and Senior Associate, leading audits for asset management and insurance clients. His proficiency in IFRS, US GAAP, and FSCA regulations, combined with his use of data analytics, streamlined processes and ensured compliance. A secondment to Coronation Fund Managers as a Financial Accountant further highlighted his adaptability.
