Michael Segwaya stands as a pillar of financial leadership and strategic vision at Absa Bank Uganda, where he has served as Executive Director and Chief Finance Officer since 2019.

With over two decades of progressive experience in the banking sector, Michael’s career is marked by rigorous financial stewardship, transformative leadership, and a steadfast commitment to operational excellence.

Prior to his current role at ABSA Uganda, Segwaya’s journey began at Barclays Bank Uganda, where he dedicated over 16 years to various senior finance roles.

As Executive Director and CFO, Segwaya was instrumental in guiding the bank’s strategic direction, overseeing treasury balance sheet management, and ensuring robust product control. His fiduciary responsibilities to the Board underscored his expertise in aligning financial performance with long-term business objectives.

Notably, Segwaya also served as Acting Managing Director, demonstrating his versatility and trust within the organization.
Earlier, as Financial Controller, Segwaya was pivotal in day-to-day finance operations, including balance sheet, budget, and P&L management. He championed the implementation of critical controls, regulatory compliance, and data integrity-particularly during major system migrations and acquisitions, such as the integration of Nile Bank and the rollout of automated reconciliation tools across multiple African markets.

Segwaya’s leadership extends to his role as Head of Financial Reporting, where he ensured adherence to international financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
