Dederi Wimana serves as Chief Finance Officer of I&M Bank (Rwanda) Plc, where she oversees the bank’s financial strategy, regulatory compliance, treasury operations, and financial reporting framework.
A seasoned banking professional with over two decades of progressive leadership in Rwanda’s financial institutions, Ms. Wimana has spent the majority of her career driving financial excellence within Rwanda’s banking sector. She joined I&M Bank (Rwanda) over a decade ago, initially as Deputy Chief Internal Auditor, before being promoted to Chief Internal Auditor and subsequently to her current role as Chief Finance Officer.
In these positions, she has played an instrumental part in strengthening internal controls, enhancing risk-based audit methodologies, and establishing robust financial governance structures that support the bank’s sustained growth and regional expansion ambitions.
Before I&M Bank, Ms. Wimana held increasingly senior finance roles at Banque Commerciale du Rwanda (now part of I&M Bank Rwanda following merger integration), serving first as Management Accountant and later as Deputy Chief Finance Officer. During this period she was responsible for management reporting, budgeting, cost control initiatives, and the implementation of performance management systems that significantly improved operational efficiency and profitability.
Her career in banking began at Bank of Kigali, Rwanda’s largest financial institution at the time, where she progressed from Management Trainee to Financial Accountant over nearly seven years. This foundational experience provided her with comprehensive exposure to financial accounting, regulatory reporting, and the operational realities of retail and corporate banking in a fast-evolving market.
