Dangote Cement Plc has appointed Dr. Gbenga Fapohunda as its Group Financial Officer, , according to a corporate filing made through the Nigerian Exchange Ltd.
In a statement signed by Arvind Pathak, Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, the company emphasized Dr. Fapohunda’s extensive experience in finance and his strategic expertise developed over two decades.
“We believe Dr. Fapohunda’s experience and strategic insight will be vital to Dangote Cement’s ongoing growth and success,” Pathak said.
A Distinguished Career in Finance
Dr. Fapohunda brings a wealth of knowledge across financial control, risk management, treasury management, investment management, strategy development, corporate governance, and corporate finance. His academic credentials further underscore his expertise, holding a Doctorate in Strategic Management from Rome Business School, an MBA in Finance from London Business School, and a B.Sc. in Accounting from the University of Lagos.
He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and holds memberships with several professional bodies, including the Institute of Credit and Risk Management, the Institute of Cost Management Accountants, and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. Throughout his career, Dr. Fapohunda has received numerous awards recognizing his contributions to the finance sector.

Before joining Dangote Cement, he held senior finance positions at leading global firms. He served as Executive Finance Director (West Africa) at Japan Tobacco International, Finance Director at United Parcel Service (UPS), and Executive Finance Director at British American Tobacco. Earlier in his career, he gained significant experience at PwC, specializing in financial advisory, and at KPMG Professional Services as part of the Assurance Team.
