In his capacity as Chief Financial Officer of Ecobank Uganda, Emmanuel Kiberu leads the bank’s financial strategy, governance, and operational performance within a highly competitive banking landscape. He oversees financial planning and analysis, regulatory compliance, risk management, and capital optimization, ensuring strong fiscal discipline and sustainable growth.
Kiberu plays a major role in strengthening Ecobank Uganda’s market position and advancing its contribution to the broader East African financial services ecosystem with a strategic focus on innovation, efficiency, and stakeholder value creation.
Strategic Performance at Absa Group
Before joining Ecobank, Kiberu held pivotal roles at Absa Group, including Head of Business Performance and Analytics, where he honed skills in financial analysis, teamwork, business analysis, and data analysis. As Financial Controller, he managed bank-wide cost optimization, enforced budget discipline, and maintained robust control environments for financial reporting. He facilitated audits, monitored tax compliance across transfer pricing, direct and indirect taxes, and ensured the timely delivery of financial data for group consolidation. Additionally, he supported capital planning, reconciled accounts, and built strong ties with regulators while fostering talent in his team.

In his tenure as Financial Reporting Manager at Absa Group, Kiberu orchestrated group reporting processes to meet tight deadlines, acted as the primary liaison with external auditors, and prepared annual financial statements. He nurtured relationships with Absa Group’s finance teams, addressing requests promptly, and contributed to project development by crafting financial components for business cases, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Audit Expertise at KPMG East Africa
Kiberu’s foundation in auditing was built at KPMG East Africa, progressing from Audit Associate to Audit Senior. He assisted in planning, executing, and completing financial audits, reviewed statutory accounts for IFRS compliance, assessed control environments, and conducted tax compliance reviews. As a senior, he designed audit procedures, supervised teams, prepared reports, advised on tax planning, and recommended system improvements. He also served as a Learning and Development Trainer, facilitating technical and soft skills training across East African firms after accreditation from the KPMG Africa Facilitators Programme.

Early Foundations and Advisory Roles
Kiberu’s career began with internships at Citi in Treasury and Trade Solutions, promoting product utilization and preparing performance reports, and at dfcu Bank in Consumer and Corporate Banking, tracking unit metrics and handling loan documentation. Concurrently, he contributed to AIESEC, serving as Local Chapter Vice President Outgoing Exchange at Makerere University, managing global internship programs, and later as a Member Board of Advisors at Uganda Christian University, guiding strategies, aligning functions, and mentoring leaders to foster youth development and international exchange.
