With over 14 years of experience spanning strategy, financial planning, corporate finance, and governance,Richard Muraguri, Head of Finance and Supply Chain at Equity Bank Uganda Limited has established himself as a trusted leader capable of navigating complex banking environments while delivering sustainable value.

Holding a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi and as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), he brings a robust blend of technical expertise and strategic insight to one of East Africa’s leading financial institutions.

Leadership at Equity Group
In his current role, Muraguri leads the finance and supply chain functions at Equity Bank Uganda. He is responsible for strategy formulation, execution and tracking, financial control, stakeholder reporting, and driving operational efficiency across the organisation.

Before this, he served as Associate Director and General Manager for Group Business Performance at Equity Group Holdings in Nairobi. In these capacities, he spearheaded financial planning and analysis in support of commercial operations, managed mergers and acquisitions activities, supported investor relations, and coordinated performance monitoring across regional subsidiaries.

His contributions have been instrumental in aligning financial strategies with broader group objectives, ensuring cost optimisation, and delivering high-quality insights to senior leadership.

Audit Background and Strategic Acumen
Muraguri’s career foundation was built at KPMG, where he progressed through roles including Audit Manager in Kenya and Assistant Audit Manager in the United Kingdom. At KPMG, he managed diverse client portfolios, led audit engagements in the financial services sector, supervised teams, and provided assurance services with a strong emphasis on governance and risk management. This Big Four experience sharpened his ability to deliver robust financial reporting, identify efficiency opportunities, and offer strategic insights that enhance decision-making. His audit background continues to inform his approach to financial control and stakeholder engagement at Equity Bank.
