Flutterwave has announced a leadership transition in its finance team, with Morounke Olufemi, previously Chief Financial Officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), taking on the role of Global Chief Financial Officer.
Mitesh Popat has stepped down as Global CFO to co-found a new venture. The company described the change as reflecting strategic continuity, organisational maturity and its commitment to sustainable growth.
Olufemi brings more than 24 years of multinational experience in finance, strategy and banking. Before joining Flutterwave, she served as Group Chief Financial Officer at Access Holdings Plc, one of Africa’s largest financial services groups.
During her tenure she oversaw the raising of $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023, completed a major rights issuance programme in 2024 to meet Central Bank of Nigeria recapitalisation requirements, and led complex mergers and acquisitions that created the second-largest Pension Fund Administrator in Nigeria’s pensions industry.
Her appointment comes as Flutterwave continues to strengthen its financial foundation, including through late-stage funding rounds and strategic investments such as the acquisition of open-banking firm Mono.
Flutterwave Founder and CEO Olugbenga “GB” Agboola said the transition positions the company well for its next phase of growth.
“As Flutterwave enters the next phase of its sustainable growth, I am excited to announce Morounke as our new Global CFO. Over the past year, she has effectively led Flutterwave’s EMEA financial operations and has a proven track record, particularly from her recent experience at one of Africa’s largest financial institutions. Morounke has demonstrated that she is the financial leader we need at this moment,” Agboola said.

“I take pride in building an environment where exceptional talent and leadership can thrive because I believe that great companies nurture future founders. This is why this smooth transition between two world-class Finance leaders brings me great joy. We are grateful to Mitesh for his leadership over the last two years and fully support his next chapter. We move forward in a position of absolute strength.”
Olufemi joined Flutterwave in June 2025 as CFO covering more than 30 countries across EMEA and has worked closely with Popat on the company’s financial strategy. Popat’s decision to co-found a media company was described as consistent with Flutterwave’s entrepreneurial culture, which has seen a growing number of former employees launch ventures in cross-border payments, technology and consulting.
Commenting on her new role, Olufemi said: “I am excited to step into the global CFO role. Our financial trajectory remains firmly on course. We will continue executing our strategy with a focus on capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability, while giving global finance leaders total control over their working capital as well as access to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement. I look forward to working with our global teams to drive long-term value for all our stakeholders.”
The company emphasised that the transition underscores its commitment to internal talent development and succession planning. As Flutterwave evolves into a broader financial operating system connecting Africa to the global economy through both fiat and digital assets, its strategic priorities, capital allocation models and long-term financial goals remain unchanged.
