John Githiomi is a seasoned financial executive with over 15 years of leadership experience in the energy sector, currently serving as Group Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at Rubis Energy Kenya Plc (formerly KenolKobil Limited).
Since joining the company, Githiomi has risen through the ranks, demonstrating strategic acumen and operational excellence across multiple roles.
As Group CFO, Githiomi provides strategic financial leadership across six African countries, overseeing operations with annual revenues of USD 1.6 billion (2018). A key member of the Executive Committee, he advises on strategic investments and policies, supporting the Group Managing Director in driving regional growth.
Githiomi has been instrumental in securing international bank facilities, managing financial forecasting, budgets, and stakeholder relations with regulators such as the Kenya Revenue Authority and the Nairobi Securities Exchange. His expertise in mergers and acquisitions shone during the acquisition of Delta Petroleum assets in Uganda and Rwanda, as well as Rubis Energie’s acquisition of KenolKobil, where he served as the primary liaison with legal counsel.

Githiomi held pivotal roles at KenolKobil, including Head of Finance , Finance Manager, and Group Internal Audit Manager. As Internal Audit Manager, he led risk-based audits, strengthened internal controls, and enhanced operational efficiency across financial, compliance, and IT systems. His earlier role as Senior Internal Auditor involved conducting due diligence for acquisitions like BP Shell Marketing Services in Zimbabwe and Oil Burundi Limited, while also serving as an internal quality auditor for the ISO-certified company.
Before KenolKobil, Githiomi honed his skills as a Tax Consultant and Auditor at Ernst & Young, laying a strong foundation in financial compliance and auditing. With a proven track record in financial strategy, risk management, and regional expansion, Githiomi continues to drive Rubis Energy Kenya’s growth, ensuring robust funding and operational excellence to support its strategic vision across Africa.
