Whitney Kalaote-Moyo Appointed new CFO of National Development Bank

Her extensive experience across banking-related financial services, telecommunications infrastructure, insurance, consulting and professional services positions her to play a strategic role as NDB advances its transformation agenda.

The National Development Bank (NDB) has announced the appointment of Whitney Kalaote-Moyo as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as the Botswana-based financial institution continues its transformation, growth and innovation agenda.

NDB announced the appointment on its official Facebook page, describing Kalaote-Moyo as an addition whose experience, leadership and perspective would support the bank’s ongoing strategic journey.

The bank welcomed its new CFO and expressed confidence in her ability to contribute to its next phase of development, while wishing her success in the new role.

Kalaote-Moyo joins NDB with more than a decade of experience in finance, accounting, corporate governance, risk management, audit, financial reporting and strategic planning, having held senior finance positions across Botswana’s financial services and telecommunications sectors.

Before joining NDB, she served as Head of Finance at Liberty Life Botswana, a position she held . In that role, she led and oversaw the insurance business’s finances.

Before Liberty Life Botswana, Kalaote-Moyo was Head of Finance at Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet), where she gained further senior-level experience in financial management within Botswana’s telecommunications infrastructure sector.

She worked as an Independent Consultant at Metropolitan Life of Botswana Limited in Gaborone. Her responsibilities included reviewing balance-sheet accounts for accuracy, completeness and existence; advising on the accounting treatment of transactions in line with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); providing feedback to the CFO on financial review findings; liaising with internal and external auditors; preparing audit files; and supporting the wider finance function.

Her professional career also includes nearly six years at PwC, where she progressed from Senior Accountant to Assistant Manager.

As an Assistant Manager, Kalaote-Moyo was involved in risk management, audit planning and execution, supervision of audit teams, financial management reporting, client liaison, preparation and review of financial statements, and budgeting and variance analysis.

 Earlier, as a Senior Accountant , she was responsible for planning, executing and reporting on audit assignments in accordance with International Standards on Auditing. Her responsibilities also included maintaining client relationships, supporting effective communication and collaboration within audit teams, and upholding objectivity, independence and integrity.

She also kept abreast of developments in accounting standards and assessed their implications for audit strategies and clients’ businesses, while evaluating and testing the design and operation of accounting systems.

Kalaote-Moyo is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Nelson Mandela University. She is also described as the first-ever graduate of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) professional qualification, marking a significant milestone in her professional development.

Her career has been characterized by expertise spanning financial reporting, corporate finance, performance management, audit oversight, regulatory compliance, risk management and organizational transformation.

With her appointment as CFO, Kalaote-Moyo is expected to bring a collaborative leadership approach to NDB, with a focus on financial resilience, accountability, innovation and sustainable growth.
